Visiting Dillsboro North Carolina is like turning back the clock a century!
Dillsboro began, and still remains, a tourist destinations for visitors who want to experience a simpler way of life, to breathe in the fresh mountain air and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains.
Beginning in the late 1800s, visitors wanting to escape the heat of the Southern Carolinas, Georgia and even far-away Florida, would board a train and take the long, winding journey through the Appalachian & Smoky Mountains to stay weeks, and sometimes months in the tiny town of Dillsboro.
Today, visitors can recreate that experience on the Old 1702 Steam Train! You can board The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad in nearby Bryson City, and experience the breathtaking views as the engine chugs along the scenic Tuckasegee River. Passengers will disembark the train at the depot just steps from The Front Porch General Store.
Whether you arrive by plane, train or automobile, you'll instantly settle in to the comfortable easy atmosphere Dillsboro is known for.
Stay for a day or make it a weekend getaway. There's plenty to see and do! Explore miles of nearby hiking trails, dozens of spectacular waterfalls, or go rafting, tubing or kayaking. Some of the South's best fishing is a few steps away, on the Tuckasegee River!
Our town has several great restaurants, craft stores, little shops, a chocolate factory, a rafting company, a quaint country inn, a river front lodge, and even a creek side brewery.
